Wallpaper - The Wind Shapes The Tree

Our The Wind Shapes The Tree wallpaper, created by Kate Jarvik Birch, captures an expressive desert horizon where a solitary tree bends against a wide open sky. Rendered with a soft, watercolour-inspired painted character, the composition pairs earthy beige and warm yellow tones to evoke the quiet movement of natural elements across mountain ridges. We make all our wallpapers made-to-measure on a PVC-free paper with a subtle surface structure, giving your space a calm, scenic focal point that remains straightforward to hang.

In the room

Because the motif relies on a broad horizon and the dramatic silhouette of the bending tree, we see this working particularly well on a wide, uninterrupted wall in a living room or dining room. The horizontal sweep of the desert landscape needs enough unbroken width so the relationship between the tree and the distant mountains can unfold naturally. In a bedroom or guest room, placing the design behind a bed headboard anchors the sleeping area while keeping the overall atmosphere warm and grounded. For smaller spaces such as a home office, study, library, or dressing room, the gentle gradation of earthy tones helps create a peaceful backdrop without overwhelming compact proportions.

Styling it

To complement the Southwestern character and organic feel of the landscape, we suggest pairing the design with low-profile furniture and natural finishes.

• Choose warm wood pieces, such as oiled oak or honey-toned pine, to mirror the golden and earthy undertones in the desert scenery.
• Use woven, tactile fabrics like unbleached linen or textured wool for drapery and upholstery to echo the soft, painterly visual texture of the artwork.
• Incorporate simple ceramic accents, matte terracotta pottery, or muted stone surfaces that ground the room without competing with the tree's sweeping branches.

Colour combinations

The artwork centres on an earthy palette composed of warm beige, soft sand, and muted yellow tones set against gentle mountain shades. When selecting colours for adjacent walls, trim, or cabinetry, warm off-white and pale stone shades will keep the room airy while allowing the mural wallpapers to stand out. For deeper contrast, muted ochre, warm clay, or deep desert brown drawn from the darker lines of the branches will create a cohesive, enveloping feel across doors and skirting boards.
