Wallpaper Murals for Kitchens

The kitchen is one of the most lived-in rooms in any home, and the right wallpapers can do a lot to shape how it feels day to day. Unlike purely decorative spaces, kitchens need designs that hold up visually alongside busy surfaces, cabinetry and appliances, so choosing something that ties the room together rather than competing with it matters more here than in most other rooms.

Choosing a style that works with your kitchen layout

Smaller kitchens tend to respond well to lighter, airier designs. Soft botanicals, delicate geometric patterns and subtle textures can all add interest without making a compact room feel enclosed. In larger or open-plan kitchens, there is more scope to be bold. A statement wall mural used as a focal point behind a dining area or kitchen island can give the space a strong sense of character, particularly when the rest of the room is kept fairly neutral. The key is thinking about where the eye naturally settles and whether the wallpaper will support or disrupt that.

Working around what is already in the room

Kitchens tend to have more competing surfaces than most other rooms, so the materials already in place are worth thinking about before you choose. Warm-toned wallpapers with natural or earthy motifs can complement wooden shelving and stone worktops, while cleaner graphic designs or muted palettes often sit well alongside modern cabinetry and stainless steel finishes. It is also worth considering how your chosen wallpaper will interact with your backsplash, flooring and countertop material, since all of these elements will be visible at once.

Colour plays a real role in how the room feels throughout the day. Pale greens, warm creams and soft blues can keep a kitchen feeling fresh and light, while deeper tones like terracotta or charcoal work well in more spacious kitchens where a bit more visual weight feels at home.

Feature wall or a broader treatment

Not every kitchen calls for wall-to-wall pattern. A single feature wall with a well-chosen mural wallpaper can shift the whole feel of the room without committing to a heavier look throughout. This works especially well on the wall behind an open shelving unit, a breakfast bar or a dining nook attached to the kitchen, where the wallpaper has space to be appreciated rather than disappearing behind cabinetry.

If you prefer more flexibility, peel-and-stick wallpapers are worth considering for areas where you might want to refresh the look over time. For those after something more permanent, all wallpapers at Wallism are made to measure, so the design is sized to fit your actual walls rather than adapted to a standard format.
