Wallpaper Murals and Wallpapers for Dining Rooms

The dining room is one of the spaces in a home where wallpaper can have a real impact. It shifts between everyday family meals and more considered dinner parties, which means the design you choose needs to work across both. The right wallpaper for dining rooms can pull the whole space together, giving it a personality that furniture and lighting alone often struggle to deliver.

Creating the right atmosphere around the table

Before settling on a design, it's worth thinking about the mood you want in the room. Rich, deep-toned wallpapers in botanical, abstract or painterly styles can create an intimate, immersive feeling that suits evening dining. Jewel tones like deep green, navy or terracotta tend to make a dining room feel more considered and enclosed, which can work in your favour when you want the space to feel like somewhere to linger. Lighter options, whether a soft textured pattern or a restrained geometric, keep the room feeling fresh and well-suited to daytime use.

Wall murals work particularly well in dining rooms. A single large-format image on one wall, whether a landscape, a botanical scene or an architectural print, can become a natural focal point without the rest of the room needing to compete with it. Mural wallpapers are a good option if you want character and depth without committing a bold pattern to every surface.

What to pair with dining room wallpaper

Warm wood furniture, natural linen, upholstered seating and ceramic tableware all sit comfortably alongside a wide range of dining room wallpaper styles. If there's a colour in the design you're drawn to, repeating it in smaller details like candles, napkins or glassware can help tie the room together without overworking it. A deeper, more patterned wallpaper often pairs well with simple, understated furniture, letting the walls do the talking while the rest of the room stays grounded.

For a more layered look, marble surfaces, wicker pendant lighting and mixed-metal accents can complement richer wallpaper choices well. The key is finding a thread that connects the wallpaper to something already in the room.

Anchoring the dining area in an open-plan layout

In open-plan homes, defining the dining area as its own space can be a real challenge. A well-chosen dining room wall mural or a strong pattern applied to the wall behind the table can act as a visual anchor, giving the dining zone its own identity within a larger shared layout. This approach works particularly well when the rest of the space is kept more neutral, allowing the wallpapered wall to mark the boundary between cooking, dining and living areas naturally.
