Wallpapers and Wall Murals for Public Spaces

Choosing wallpapers for public spaces involves a different set of considerations than decorating a home. The people moving through the space, the function of the room, and the overall atmosphere you want to create all influence which designs will work well. A hotel lobby, a corporate office, a community centre, and a clinic each have distinct identities, and the right wall murals can do a lot to establish tone without relying on heavy furniture or elaborate decor.

Anchoring Large Spaces and Keeping Corridors Calm

Scale and proportion shape how a design reads in a public interior. In large, open areas with high ceilings and generous sightlines, bolder and more expansive wallpapers can anchor the room and give it a clear visual identity. Abstract compositions, large-scale nature scenes, or strong graphic patterns work well in these settings because they hold their presence across a wide wall without feeling lost.

In narrower areas like corridors, waiting rooms, or stairwells, a more restrained approach often suits the space better. Softer textures and quieter patterns can keep those areas from feeling cluttered, while still giving the walls a considered, finished quality that bare paint rarely achieves.

Matching the Design to the Architecture and Setting

The materials and finishes already in a space are worth thinking about before choosing mural wallpapers. In modern offices with exposed concrete, steel or glass, geometric patterns and architectural motifs in neutral or muted tones tend to sit comfortably alongside the building's existing character. In hospitality settings such as restaurants, cafés, or retail environments, warmer colours and nature-inspired wallpapers can create a more welcoming atmosphere for visitors and guests.

Civic buildings and community spaces often benefit from designs that feel inclusive and considered rather than overtly branded. Botanical wallpapers, landscapes, or abstract designs in calm, mid-toned palettes can give shared spaces a polished look that works across a wide range of visitors.

Feature Walls and Multi-Surface Installations

A single feature wall is a practical approach in many public interiors. It creates a clear focal point in a reception area, a meeting room, or a dining space without committing every wall to the same treatment. For larger installations across multiple surfaces, keeping a consistent colour palette or visual theme helps the overall space feel cohesive rather than busy.

Wall murals are particularly well suited to wide, uninterrupted walls where a continuous image can be read in full. In areas with high footfall, cleaner designs with strong visual presence tend to hold up better visually than very intricate patterns, which can feel overwhelming at scale. Wallism's wallpapers are made to measure, so they can be sized to suit any wall in a public project, whether that's a single statement surface or a wider installation.
