Wallpaper Murals for Bathrooms

Bathrooms are one of the more personal spaces in a home, and wallpaper can shift the whole feeling of the room more than almost any other single change. Whether you want the calm of a spa-like retreat or something with more visual personality, choosing the right bathroom wallpapers is about matching the design to how the space is used and what it already contains.

Setting the right atmosphere for your bathroom

Soft, nature-inspired designs and botanical wall murals tend to work particularly well in bathrooms, sitting easily alongside the materials most commonly found in the space: ceramic tiles, natural stone, brushed metal fixtures and timber accents. Water-inspired motifs and gentle abstract patterns are also a popular choice for bathrooms, helping to create a relaxed, unhurried feel for morning and evening routines. For those who prefer something bolder, a graphic print or richly coloured mural wallpaper can bring real character to a smaller powder room or guest bathroom without requiring a full renovation.

How colour direction affects the feel of the room

Colour plays an important role in how a bathroom reads. Lighter tones in pale greens, soft blues or warm neutrals can open up a compact bathroom visually and pair well with white sanitary ware and pale grout. Deeper shades, such as forest green, navy or charcoal, can give a larger bathroom a more atmospheric, considered quality. A dark, moody wallpaper behind a large mirror with well-placed lighting can feel genuinely striking, particularly in a bathroom that already has good natural light during the day.

Feature wall or full-room treatment

The vanity wall is one of the most popular places to use bathroom wall murals, as it creates a clear focal point without committing the entire room to one design. In a compact bathroom, keeping the wallpaper to a single wall also prevents the space from feeling too enclosed. That said, wrapping a small room on all sides can feel surprisingly cohesive when the design is restrained and the colour palette is consistent. In a larger bathroom, a full-room treatment with a nature-inspired or abstract mural wallpaper can work well, especially when the rest of the room is kept simple in terms of materials and fittings.

Pairing bathroom wallpaper with existing materials

It helps to think about what is already in the room when choosing a design. Organic, flowing motifs tend to complement natural stone, warm wood and matte finishes, while cleaner, more structured patterns can work well alongside polished chrome, white ceramic and modern cabinetry. If the bathroom has strong architectural features, such as a freestanding bath, a recessed niche or a large-format tile, a wallpaper that picks up one of the existing tones can help tie the room together without competing for attention. Bathroom wallpapers are made to measure at Wallism, so the design is sized to your specific walls rather than trimmed from a standard roll.
