Wallpaper - Well Read

Our Well Read wallpaper brings together the charm of a classic still life and a bold, modernist illustrative style. Designed by Morgan Birch, the motif features a neat stack of books alongside a bright red vase with green foliage and a bowl of fresh oranges, set against a rich, saturated blue background. Thick outlines and expressive brushwork give the impression of an oil painting, creating a confident, graphic focal point with an artistic character. Like all our wallpapers, this design is made-to-measure to fit your exact wall dimensions and printed on PVC-free paper with a subtle surface structure.

In the room

We love this wallpaper as an accent wall in spaces where you want a warm, cultured atmosphere. In a home office, study, or reading corner, the literary theme naturally reinforces the function of the room. It also works wonderfully on a dining room or kitchen wall, where the tabletop still-life composition feels right at home. Because the motif is painterly and visually rich, we suggest placing it on an uninterrupted wall behind a desk, dining table, or sofa, allowing the full composition of books, fruit, and vase to remain visible without being split by tall cabinetry. For smaller entryways or a powder room, the bold blue backdrop adds instant personality and depth without overwhelming the compact space.

Styling it

• Bring in warm mid-toned or dark timber furniture, such as walnut or teak shelving and dining tables, to echo the warm tones in the books and balance the cool blue background.
• Select upholstery and soft furnishings in muted terracotta, rust, or deep olive green to subtly pick up the secondary colours within the vase and foliage.
• Introduce classic table lamps with warm-toned shades to highlight the painterly brushstrokes and create an inviting ambience in the evening.

Colour combinations

The palette is led by the striking contrast between the deep royal blue backdrop, the bright poppy red of the vase, and the zesty orange and leafy green accents. When decorating the surrounding space, neutral walls in soft parchment, warm cream, or light biscuit provide a quiet frame that lets the wallpaper stand out. If you prefer a richer, more enveloping feel, consider painting adjacent walls, skirting, or woodwork in a deep navy or a muted terracotta drawn directly from the illustration.
