Wallpaper - Summer Cottage I

Our Summer Cottage I wallpaper, created with artist Katrina Pete, brings a gentle pastoral scene together with a classic geometric backdrop. The design pairs a hand-painted straw hat, trimmed with soft blue flowers and ribbon, against a warm apricot-toned gingham pattern. Watercolour-like brushstrokes give the central still life a delicate, painterly character, while the structured check behind it keeps the overall composition grounded and balanced. Like all our wall murals, this design is made-to-measure to your exact dimensions on PVC-free paper with a subtle physical surface structure.

In the room

We see this wallpaper working particularly well in spaces where you want a calm, relaxed atmosphere with a touch of countryside character. In a kitchen, breakfast nook, or pantry, the combination of gingham and floral elements feels completely natural. It also sits wonderfully in an entryway, mudroom, or laundry room, where the decorative motif adds warmth to everyday utilitarian areas.

Because the central hat illustration serves as a clear focal point within the gingham grid, we recommend giving this design a dedicated, relatively uninterrupted wall area. In a bedroom or guest room, placing it behind a bed creates an inviting backdrop without overwhelming the space. For smaller rooms such as a dressing room or home office, the lighter pastel tones keep the environment feeling open and airy.

Styling it

The nostalgic heritage feel of our design pairs effortlessly with classic cottage, French country, and traditional farmhouse interiors. We would combine it with simple painted furniture in creamy off-white or muted pastel shades that echo the background check. Warm, lighter natural wood pieces also sit comfortably alongside the straw and apricot notes in the artwork.

To keep the decorative focus on the wall mural, we suggest keeping surrounding patterns quiet. Solid linen cushions, simple woven curtains, and unadorned stoneware accessories allow the illustrated details of the hat and floral ribbon to remain the centrepiece of the room.

Colour combinations

The palette of our wallpaper centres on soft apricot and warm pastel hues in the gingham ground, balanced by delicate blues and muted greens in the floral details and ribbon. Natural straw and light brown shades round out the painted motif.

When decorating around this design, we suggest pulling directly from these core tones. Soft off-whites, warm buttermilk shades, and gentle creams work beautifully on neighbouring walls and painted woodwork. If you would like a subtle contrast, pale cornflower blue or muted duck egg tones in your larger textiles will pick up the floral accents in the hat and tie the whole room together.
