Wallpaper - Common Cruiser Butterfly

Our Common Cruiser Butterfly wallpaper, created by Mackenzie Nelson, centres on a beautifully painted-looking butterfly study set against an off-white ground. What we particularly appreciate about this mural wallpaper is the balance of warm ochre, amber, and chestnut brown tones against fine dark line work that defines the wing venation, scalloped edges, and eyelet markings. The visible brushstrokes and soft shadowing around the wings give the subject depth and an illustrative, entomological character. Produced made-to-measure on PVC-free paper with a subtle surface structure, it brings an organic yet graphic focal point to any room.

In the room

Because of the bold, central scale of the butterfly motif, we see this working exceptionally well as a feature wall in a living room, study, or bedroom. On a wider, uninterrupted wall, such as behind a sofa or bed frame, the full silhouette has room to breathe without competing with tall storage units. In a home office or reading corner, the warm, earthy palette creates an inviting and grounded atmosphere, especially in spaces that receive soft natural daylight where the delicate nuances of the amber and brown brushwork can be fully appreciated.

Styling it

To complement the naturalist aesthetic of our design, we suggest pairing it with warm, mid-toned woods and understated, unpatterned furniture. Keeping the surrounding elements relatively quiet allows the detail of the illustration to remain the primary focus.

• Choose furniture with clean, simple profiles in warm timber tones like teak or walnut, which pick up the deeper brown markings of the wings.
• Introduce neutral upholstery and woven textiles in unbleached linen or soft wool to echo the calm, off-white background.
• Incorporate subtle matte black or antique bronze accents in lamps or hardware to reflect the graphic dark linework of the wings.

Colour combinations

The design itself is built upon warm ochre, golden brown, deep chestnut, and charcoal-brown linework, grounded by an off-white canvas. When decorating the surrounding space, we recommend continuing these warm undertones across adjoining painted walls using soft ecru, muted stone, or gentle sandy beige. For a richer, more enveloping feel, dark chocolate brown or deep charcoal on trim and woodwork creates a striking contrast that echoes the delicate edge detail of the butterfly wings.
