Wallpaper - Assemblage I

Our Assemblage I wallpaper brings together a collage of vintage-inspired paper scraps, handwritten script, woven textile visual texture, and painterly brushstrokes. Created by Courtney Prahl, this design layers torn craft paper, aged lined ledger paper, and patterned fragments in warm neutral tones, earthy browns, soft creams, and muted greys. We particularly like how the rough, torn edges interact with graphic marks and delicate handwriting, creating a relaxed yet structured composition. Printed as a made-to-measure, PVC-free mural wallpaper with a subtle structure in the paper, it introduces an artistic, collected feel to interior walls.

In the room

In a study, home office, or reading corner, we think this design creates an engaging, thoughtful backdrop without overwhelming the space. The tactile look of the paper layers and cursive script naturally lends itself to quieter rooms dedicated to work or creative pursuits. Because the composition balances open neutral areas with detailed patterned sections, we would give it an uninterrupted feature wall behind a desk or alongside a bookshelf where the individual collage elements remain visible.

For a living room or hallway, our wallpaper works wonderfully as a focal point. In spaces with good natural daylight, the subtle tonal contrasts between the warm beige paper, grey brushwork, and creamy white accents become particularly distinct. The horizontal and vertical layering of the elements also helps anchor lower furniture pieces, such as a low sideboard or bench, while keeping the upper wall visually engaging.

Styling it

We recommend pairing this design with simple, unforced interior elements that complement its mixed-media aesthetic:

• Choose warm natural wood furniture, such as oak or ash, to harmonise with the craft paper and woven textural tones in the print.
• Keep surrounding textiles understated, opting for plain weaves in oatmeal, flax, or charcoal grey rather than competing patterned fabrics.
• Introduce matte black or antique bronze hardware and light fixtures to echo the darker script and charcoal brush marks in the collage.

Colour combinations

The design itself features an earthy palette of kraft brown, warm biscuit beige, aged ivory, and soft slate grey, punctuated by off-white pattern marks and dark ink lettering.

When decorating around this wallpaper, we would look to adjacent walls painted in soft warm whites, pale ecru, or muted linen tones to let the mural stand out. If you prefer deeper contrast, a dark charcoal or warm espresso brown on surrounding woodwork, shelving, or trim ties directly into the deepest tones of the collage.
