Wallpaper - Badwater Basin

Our Badwater Basin wall mural brings the vast, open atmosphere of the desert into your home through fine photographic detail. The composition captures pale, cracked salt flats stretching toward rugged mountains, sitting under an expansive blue sky with soft drifting clouds. Photographed by Tono Balaguer, the motif balances the intricate, weathered texture of the foreground with the quiet simplicity of the horizon. Printed as a made-to-measure wallpaper on PVC-free paper with a subtle surface texture, this landscape mural creates a clean, grounded focal point on any wall.

In the room

In a living room or open-plan area, we find this landscape works best across a wide, uninterrupted feature wall where the horizontal line of the mountains and the receding flats have space to unfold naturally. Placing the design behind a low sofa or along a main living wall allows the foreground textures to sit at eye level while keeping the bright horizon visible across the room. Because the photograph carries a strong sense of depth and open sky, it helps prevent larger rooms from feeling visually enclosed without requiring a busy or repetitive pattern.

Styling it

To complement the raw, sun-baked landscape, we recommend keeping surrounding furnishings simple and grounded. Low-profile furniture with clean horizontal lines echoes the natural composition of the photograph, while matte plaster or lime-washed finishes on adjacent walls sit comfortably alongside the visual dryness of the salt flats.

When introducing materials, we like combining unvarnished pale timber or blackened metal accents to mirror the natural balance between the pale ground and dark mountain ridges. Avoiding ornate decor or heavy, high-gloss surfaces lets the quiet character of the photograph set the tone for the space.

Colour combinations

The wallpaper features a natural palette of pale salt whites, warm earthy mineral tones, and soft mountain greys beneath a clear sky blue.

For adjacent walls and skirting, chalky off-whites, warm stone, or pale sand shades allow the mural to blend gently into the room without harsh transitions. If you want to introduce subtle contrast through upholstery or smaller decor, muted charcoal, deep desert browns, or a soft clay tone draw directly from the shadowed ridges of the mountains.
