Wallpaper - Scene near Shipton on Cherwell, Oxfordshire

Our Scene near Shipton on Cherwell, Oxfordshire wallpaper captures a tranquil historic landscape framed by lush foliage and open water. Originally created by William Turner, the design depicts a quiet lake dotted with white water lilies and green lily pads, while tall trees frame a distant hilltop castle under soft blue skies and gliding birds. What we particularly like is how the delicate watercolour character and earthy moss tones establish visual depth across the wall without overwhelming the room. Printed made-to-measure on PVC-free paper with a subtle surface structure, this design is simple to hang and adds an evocative, pastoral mood to classic and contemporary interiors alike.

In the room

In a living room or primary bedroom, this scenic landscape works exceptionally well on a main feature wall behind a sofa or bed headboard. Because the composition relies on deep perspective, from the detailed foreground water lilies to the distant castle, giving the mural wallpaper a wide, uninterrupted wall allows the full panorama to unfold naturally. In a home study, library, or dining room, the calm balance of earthy green and sky blue creates an open, atmospheric backdrop. The soft tonal gradations in the water and sky become particularly vivid in rooms with generous natural daylight, while warmer ambient evening light accentuates the mossy foliage.

Styling it

We recommend pairing this scenic design with traditional or heritage-inspired interior elements that echo its classical character. Painted timber furniture in soft off-white or muted sage keeps the room cohesive, while dark or warm wood finishes like antique mahogany, walnut, or aged oak complement the earthy tones in the trees.

To keep the focal point on the landscape, choose upholstery in understated, plain weaves and avoid competing pictorial patterns elsewhere in the space. Brass or aged bronze accents on lighting fixtures and cabinet hardware bring a subtle warmth that pairs naturally with the historic palette.

Colour combinations

The palette in our wallpaper centres on rich moss green, earthy olive, and soft water blues, balanced by airy cloud whites and pale stone hues in the architecture. When selecting colours for adjacent walls, trim, and woodwork, soft plaster whites or gentle muted creams create a seamless transition. For a moodier, enveloping scheme in a dining room or library, drawing out the deeper moss or forest greens onto surrounding panelling and skirting boards highlights the lush greenery within the landscape.
