Wallpaper - Afternoon Nap

Our Afternoon Nap wallpaper brings artist Kate Jarvik Birch’s charming painting to life on a grand scale. The motif captures a ginger and white tabby cat curled up asleep on a green cushion, basking in a diagonal shaft of warm sunlight. Rich brushstrokes, expressive texture, and striking tonal contrast define the artwork, balancing vibrant terracotta and amber fur against rich olive green, deep charcoal shadows, and crisp white highlights. Like all our wallpapers, this mural wallpaper is made-to-measure to fit your wall dimensions and printed on PVC-free paper with a subtle surface structure.

In the room

Because of its painterly focus and strong focal composition, we see this wall mural working wonderfully as an accent wall in a living room, bedroom, or a relaxed home office. The bold contrast between the deep dark backdrop and the sunlit tabby makes it naturally draw the eye, so we would place it on a feature wall where the central cat illustration can sit uninterrupted above low-profile furniture like a sofa back, a low headboard, or a study desk. In smaller rooms or cosy reading nooks, the rich tones and painterly depth create an inviting, warm atmosphere that envelops the space without feeling cluttered.

Styling it

To let the artwork remain the clear hero in the room, we suggest keeping surrounding furniture relatively simple and letting the wallpaper provide the personality. Mid-toned or warm woods work naturally with the amber and ginger hues of the cat, while matte black or dark bronze metal accents echo the deep painted shadows. When choosing upholstery and larger fabrics, consider solid olive, moss green, or neutral oat tones that complement the painted cushion rather than competing with its distinctive brushwork.

Colour combinations

The palette in our design centres on warm ginger, amber, and terracotta paired with vivid olive green, deep charcoal, and soft white. When styling around the wallpaper, pulling out earthy terracotta and muted green tones for cushions, throws, or painted adjacent walls creates a coherent, warm scheme. If you prefer a calmer contrast, soft off-whites, warm greys, or muted stone shades on surrounding surfaces will let the vibrant green cushion and glowing feline motif stand out crisply.
