Wallpaper - River Mist

Our River Mist wallpaper, created in collaboration with artist Julia Purinton, captures a tranquil river landscape veiled in soft, atmospheric haze. What we particularly like about this design is the balance between the open, glowing sky above and the gentle brushwork of the riverbanks below. Rendered in a painterly style with visible canvas-like texture in the artwork, the composition moves from subtle cream and warm beige tones into quiet grey, taupe, and earthy charcoal shadows. Produced made-to-measure on PVC-free paper with a subtle surface structure, it brings an understated artistic presence to any interior.

In the room

Because the artwork features a low horizon line with generous negative space across the upper half, we see this wall mural working especially well on wider, uninterrupted walls. In a living room, placing it behind a sofa allows the misty sky to open up the room visually while the darker landscape grounds the furniture line.

In a bedroom, positioning the mural wallpaper behind a bed creates a restful focal point without overwhelming the space. The soft transitions of tone make it equally well suited to a quiet home office or a dining area, where the painterly scenery adds depth without demanding excessive visual attention.

Styling it

To complement the impressionistic character of the design, we suggest keeping surrounding furniture relatively simple in form:

• Pair with natural, warm wood finishes or soft painted joinery that echo the earthy taupe and muted grey tones in the lower riverbanks.
• Use understated upholstery in cream, oatmeal, or unbleached textiles to maintain the light, airy feeling established by the painted sky.
• Introduce subtle metallic accents, such as brushed brass or blackened iron, to provide a clean, modern contrast against the soft brushstrokes.

Colour combinations

The palette within our River Mist wallpaper is built around warm ivory, soft mist greys, gentle taupe, and deep charcoal.

When choosing adjacent wall colours, we recommend warm off-whites, soft stone, or light greige to extend the luminous quality of the sky across the rest of the room. For a deeper, more enveloping feel, drawing out the charcoal and slate tones from the riverbank onto nearby woodwork or accent cabinetry creates a grounded, cohesive interior.
