Wallpaper - Technicolor Downpour

Our Technicolor Downpour wallpaper, created by Kate Jarvik Birch, captures an expressive urban night scene defined by rain-slicked streets, vivid city lights, and bold painterly brushwork. What we particularly like about this design is the vibrant contrast between the dark indigo and teal shadows of the rainy street and the glowing reflections of orange, red, and warm amber light pouring across the wet pavement. The composition follows a lone silhouetted figure walking with an umbrella along a brightly lit storefront, set against soft bokeh traffic lights and falling rain. As with all our mural wallpapers, this design is made-to-measure on PVC-free paper with a subtle paper structure, creating an evocative and artful presence across any wall.

In the room

In a living room, dining area, or study, we see this wall mural working particularly well as an accent wall where the full vertical scene can unfold without heavy disruption. Because the design has such rich depth and a distinct narrative focal point, we would place it behind a low-backed sofa, along an open dining wall, or facing into a room from a main entryway. Giving the mural wallpaper a relatively open wall allows the luminous street reflections at the base and the moody night sky above to anchor the room naturally. In spaces with softer, warmer ambient lighting, the amber and orange tones in the artwork pick up a lovely evening warmth that makes the surrounding room feel instantly grounded.

Styling it

When styling around this wallpaper, we suggest balancing the expressive brushstrokes and dramatic contrast with clean-lined, understated furnishings. Darker painted furniture, black metal accents, or warm charcoal tones echo the deep silhouette and shadowy streetscape without competing with the vibrant reflections. For upholstery and larger textiles, we like pulling in simple, textured neutral fabrics in stone or muted slate, or introducing a small accent cushion in rust or burnt orange to carry the warm glow of the storefront across the rest of the room.

Colour combinations

The palette within our design balances deep, cool night tones—including indigo, midnight blue, teal, and charcoal—against intense glowing accents of amber, warm orange, crimson, and pale lantern yellow. For adjacent walls and trim, we like pairing this wallpaper with deep navy or moody off-black to create a cohesive, enveloping atmosphere. If you prefer a lighter surrounding palette, soft warm greys or muted parchment shades allow the rich colours of the city scene to stand out crisply as the main visual feature.
