Wallpaper - Lights Up

Our Lights Up wallpaper by Kate Jarvik Birch captures the atmospheric energy of a city street at dusk after rain. Broad, expressive painterly brushstrokes create a rich interplay between deep evening blues, cool slate tones, and vibrant glowing reflections of yellow headlights, red traffic lights, and warm streetlamps across wet asphalt. We especially like how the loose, impressionistic style balances urban geometry with soft, luminous colour accents. Made-to-measure on PVC-free paper with a subtle surface structure, this design brings a distinctive artistic perspective to an interior.

In the room

In a living room or open-plan dining space, we see this wall mural working particularly well on an uninterrupted feature wall where the full street scene and its glowing reflections can unfold without heavy obstruction. The deep twilight blue ground gives the design a grounded, enveloping character, while the scattered points of warm light keep the composition dynamic and engaging. For a home office or study, positioning the mural behind a desk or reading nook introduces an urban, contemporary mood that adds character without overpowering the workspace.

Styling it

Because the artwork carries significant visual movement and a strong interplay of colour, we suggest keeping surrounding furniture relatively clean-lined and quiet. Modern silhouettes in dark metal, matte black, or deep walnut ground the space and echo the architectural lines of the city buildings. To maintain balance, we would avoid competing patterns in nearby upholstery, opting instead for solid, tactile fabrics like woven wool or heavy cotton in charcoal, midnight blue, or warm amber.

Colour combinations

The palette within the wallpaper is anchored by deep indigo, twilight blue, and cool grey, punctuated by luminous golden yellow, amber, and vibrant red. For adjacent painted walls, soft muted slate or deep navy can create a moody, cohesive envelope. If you prefer higher contrast, pale grey or warm off-white trim will cleanly frame the mural and highlight the brilliant glowing reflections in the foreground.
