Wallpaper - Crazy Checkerboard

Our Crazy Checkerboard wallpaper, designed by Carrie Cantwell, brings an energetic rhythm to the wall through a vibrant grid of small squares. Bright tones of red, blue, yellow, pink, orange, and green are arranged across an evenly sized geometric grid, creating a lively mosaic effect inspired by postmodern design. The flat, clean execution of the squares balances the high visual variety of the palette, giving the motif a bold, graphic character that enlivens modern interiors. Like all our mural wallpapers, this design is made to measure to your wall dimensions and printed on PVC-free paper with a subtle physical structure.

In the room

We see this colourful geometric design working exceptionally well in spaces dedicated to activity, imagination, and play. In a children's room, playroom, toddler room, or teenage bedroom, the dense repeat and lively colour distribution turn an accent wall into a dynamic backdrop. Because the pattern scale is composed of small, repeating units, the design remains clear and engaging even on walls broken up by shelving, desks, or doorways. In a home art studio or hobby space, we like placing it behind an open worktable or across an entire alcove to establish a bright, creative focal point.

Styling it

When styling around such a vivid, multi-coloured pattern, we suggest balancing the visual energy of the walls with clean, grounded furnishings. Simple contemporary furniture with painted white or neutral surfaces lets the wall murals take centre stage without competing for attention. In an eclectic maximalist setting, you might pick out one or two specific shades from the grid, such as cobalt blue or warm orange, and repeat them through painted metal task lamps, storage bins, or framed prints. Keeping larger items like desks, beds, and shelving relatively minimal helps the lively geometry feel intentional and well composed.

Colour combinations

Our wallpaper contains a rich spectrum of saturated primary and secondary tones, including bright red, deep blue, sunny yellow, vibrant pink, vivid orange, and fresh green. To complement this multicoloured palette on surrounding surfaces, we recommend pairing it with crisp off-white or soft warm grey paint on adjacent walls and woodwork. This provides a clean frame that lets each square stand out. If you prefer a bolder interior look, drawing a single accent tone from the grid, such as yellow or red, onto a painted door, skirting board, or window frame creates a cohesive, design-led connection throughout the space.
