Wallpaper - Maastricht The Netherlands Skyline Black & White

Created by Michael Tompsett, this graphic skyline wallpaper captures the architectural profile of Maastricht in high-contrast monochrome. The design sets recognizable spires, historic church facades, and arched bridges against a crisp white background, grounding the city silhouettes with an expressive ink-splatter base in deep charcoal gray and black. The upper half of the composition remains completely open, giving the landmarks a striking graphic presence without crowding the wall. Like all Wallism wallpapers, this mural design is made-to-measure to your exact wall dimensions and printed on PVC-free paper with a subtle surface structure.

In the room

We especially like this design on a wide, uninterrupted wall where the full horizontal span of the Maastricht skyline can unfold naturally. In a living room, placing the mural behind a low-backed sofa allows the detailed architectural silhouettes and dynamic ink splatters to remain clearly visible above the seating. It also works remarkably well in a home office or study, where the clean white upper portion preserves a light, airy atmosphere above a desk while the bold dark skyline adds grounded character to the room. Because the visual weight is concentrated along the lower half, the pattern anchors the space without overwhelming it.

Styling it

The stark black-and-white contrast pairs naturally with contemporary and minimalist interiors. To keep the focus on the skyline's intricate contours, we suggest furnishing the room with clean-lined pieces in matte black metal, warm woods, or muted charcoal upholstery. Low-profile shelving and uncluttered surfaces complement the open composition above the cityscape, while subtle architectural task lighting or soft up-lighting can beautifully accentuate the graphic silhouette across the wall in the evening.

Colour combinations

Our design is built around rich black, charcoal gray, and clean white. To complement this monochrome palette, we recommend pairing the surrounding walls with soft off-white or light neutral gray paint. For a more dramatic, moody scheme, deep charcoal or graphite on adjacent woodwork and trims creates a seamless architectural frame. If you want to introduce an accent colour in surrounding cushions or decorative ceramics, muted tones like forest green, burnt ochre, or slate blue provide warmth without competing with the monochrome skyline.
