Our Shape Shifter, Misty Indigo wallpaper brings together organic abstract shapes, gestural brushstroke marks, and layered translucent forms across a rich tonal blue palette. Deep midnight blue, slate, denim, and soft misty blue overlap in a fluid, collage-like composition with subtle visual brushwork texture. Produced made-to-measure on PVC-free paper with a subtle physical structure, our wall murals are straightforward to hang and sized to match your exact wall dimensions.
About the design
In this design, creator Irina Chikati works with overlapping abstract silhouettes and painterly marks that shift between soft rounded boulders, sweeping arches, and horizontal strokes. What we particularly like is the balance between dense, opaque fields of deep navy and sheerer, watercolour-like overlays where underlying shapes gently show through.
The composition carries a rhythmic, assembled quality without feeling rigid or geometric. Lighter sky blue and slate elements punctuate the darker indigo background, creating depth and movement across the wall. Up close, the subtle visual texture of dry brush marks and layered washes gives the pattern an expressive, crafted character, while from across the room it reads as a bold, contemporary tonal artwork.
In the room
We see this design working especially well in a bedroom or a living room where you want deep colour and contemporary character without high-contrast visual noise. On an uninterrupted feature wall behind a bed or a low sofa, the larger organic forms have ample space to unfold across the full height of the room.
Because the palette is built around varying depths of indigo, slate, and navy, the wallpaper can also envelop a study, home library, or dining room across several walls for a cosy, cocooning atmosphere. In rooms with generous daylight, the delicate tonal variations between the mist blues and mid-tones stand out clearly, while under softer evening lighting the design settles into a moody, immersive backdrop.
Styling it
To balance the cool, saturated blue tones of the wallpaper, we would pair it with warm timber furniture such as rich teak, oiled walnut, or warm oak. The natural grain and amber undertones of wood provide an organic counterpoint to the abstract shapes.
When choosing upholstery and larger furnishings, we recommend textured neutrals like oatmeal bouclé, charcoal wool, or natural woven fabrics that let the wall mural remain the primary visual statement. Matte black architectural accents, sculptural ceramic lamps, and brushed brass or bronze hardware complement the artistic mood without competing with the indigo collage.
Colour combinations
The wallpaper is composed of deep midnight blue, inky indigo, slate grey, denim blue, and pale misty blue.
Around the room, we suggest combining this design with warm off-white or soft chalky grey on adjacent walls and trim to keep the space open and fresh. For a bolder, monochromatic scheme, painted joinery or panelling in a matching deep navy creates a seamless, tailored finish. If you want to introduce accent colours through smaller decorative pieces, warm ochre, muted rust, or caramel tones offer an attractive warm contrast to the misty indigo backdrop.
