Our Shape Shifter, Chalky Stone wallpaper brings together layered abstract forms, soft organic contours, and loose, chalk-like marks in a cool, calming palette of slate blue, pale ice blue, soft stone, and muted chalky white. Designed by Irina Chikati, the composition balances broader semi-translucent shapes with dynamic brushstroke accents that introduce gentle movement across the wall. Printed made-to-measure for your specific room dimensions on PVC-free paper with a subtle physical surface structure, this design brings contemporary artistic character into the home.
About the design
In this design, we particularly like how the overlapping shapes create an impression of depth through subtle translucency and shifting tonal values. Softly curved boulders and upright, stone-inspired silhouettes layer across one another, grounded by cool slate, grey-blue, and pale pebble tones. Irina Chikati introduces spontaneous, chalky white and pale mint-blue strokes that sit across the larger masses, giving the motif an airy, hand-painted aesthetic.
The visual rhythm is loose and balanced rather than strictly geometric. Larger, grounded masses anchor the lower and middle portions of the view, while sweeping horizontal marks and rounded accents keep the eye moving naturally across the surface. Because the contrast remains soft and muted, the wallpaper delivers artistic expression without overwhelming the surrounding interior. Up close, the painterly texture and delicate layering give the pattern visual richness, while from across the room, it reads as a harmonious, cohesive composition.
In the room
We see this design working beautifully across an expansive wall in a contemporary living room, where the organic shapes have space to unfold across the full height and width of the room. Behind a low-profile sofa, the sweeping brushstrokes and floating forms provide an engaging focal point while preserving a tranquil atmosphere.
The cool, stone-toned palette also makes it a natural fit for a bedroom or a quiet home office. In a bedroom, we would place it along the headboard wall, where the soft slate and chalky tones establish a restful visual backdrop. For a home office or study, the abstract balance and subdued contrast offer an inspiring environment that remains easy on the eyes throughout the day. Because the pattern repeat is continuous and fluid, it works just as effectively wrapping around a dining area or an entryway with plenty of natural light.
Styling it
To complement the cool, mineral character of the design, we would introduce furniture in light, desaturated wood finishes such as bleached ash, pale birch, or brushed grey oak. These lighter timbers harmonize with the soft stone undertones of the print without competing with its cool blue hues.
For surrounding furnishings, we suggest matte, sculptural pieces in off-white textured boucle, smooth plaster-look ceramics, or brushed stainless steel. A low-pile wool rug in an undyed oatmeal or soft dove grey grounds the room nicely while letting the wall mural carry the visual movement. Keeping window drapery simple, perhaps in an airy, unlined pale grey or crisp white fabric, allows daylight to play across the subtle shifts in blue and slate.
Colour combinations
The motif is defined by a palette of slate blue, powder blue, chalky white, soft stone grey, and delicate hints of pale seafoam.
When choosing adjacent wall colours or woodwork trims, a crisp off-white or light cool grey creates a clean, seamless transition that keeps the room feeling bright and open. If you want to lean into a moodier, more enveloping feel, painting surrounding trim or built-in shelving in a deep charcoal slate or muted denim blue draws out the darker layers of the artwork. For accent textiles or smaller decor, soft muted greys, pale ice blues, and natural stone shades tie the entire interior together effortlessly.
