Wallpaper - Grain Clad, Slate

Our Grain Clad, Slate wallpaper brings the organic rhythm of vertical timber panelling into an interior with a cool, contemporary palette. The design features wide vertical wooden planks with detailed grain patterns, subtle knots, and tonal variation across slate, charcoal, and soft cool grey shades. What we particularly like about this mural wallpaper is how the vertical alignment adds a sense of height to a room while maintaining an understated, architectural feel. Made to measure for your exact wall dimensions, our wallpapers are PVC-free and printed on paper with a subtle surface structure.

In the room

In a living room or bedroom, we would place this design across a feature wall behind a sofa or bed headboard, where the continuous vertical grain creates an architectural backdrop. The vertical plank layout naturally draws the eye upward, making it especially effective in rooms with standard ceiling heights. Because the slate palette is cool and restrained, the design also works nicely in a hallway, dining space, or home office without competing with surrounding furnishings. Across a wider, uninterrupted wall, the subtle differences in grain and tone between each plank have generous space to unfold.

Styling it

To balance the linear structure of the timber panelling, we suggest introducing soft, tactile textiles and relaxed silhouettes into the room. Upholstered seating in woven wool, boucle, or linen brings warmth alongside the cool grey boards. When it comes to furniture, pieces in warm mid-tone wood or matte black frames create a confident, modern contrast against the slate tones. Minimalist lighting in brushed brass or blackened metal accentuates the clean architectural lines of the pattern while keeping the overall room scheme open and uncluttered.

Colour combinations

The wallpaper is built from a palette of slate greys, charcoal shadows, and softer ash mid-tones. For adjacent painted walls, crisp chalky whites and soft pale greys create a clean, bright transition that lets the wall mural take centre stage. If you want a deeper, more atmospheric setting, dark charcoal, deep navy, or rich moss green on surrounding walls will pair naturally with the darker grain lines. Earthy accent tones such as terracotta, cognac leather, or warm ochre also work beautifully to add subtle warmth against the cool grey panelling.
