Wallpaper - Scintilla, Blue Slate

Our Scintilla wallpaper in Blue Slate brings together gentle tonal layering and subtle, stippled line work across a muted grey-blue ground. What we particularly like about this design is the quiet movement across the surface, where faint horizontal drifts and fine dotting create the impression of shifting cloud cover or weathered mineral strata without ever settling into a rigid pattern. The low-contrast palette gives the motif an understated, atmospheric character that sits softly in the background. Like all our wall murals, this design is made to measure and printed on PVC-free paper with a subtle surface structure.

In the room

Because the contrast is gentle and the horizontal movement flows seamlessly across the wall, Scintilla works exceptionally well across all four walls of a bedroom, living room, or home office. In spaces where bolder wallpaper designs might compete with shelving, artwork, or architectural details, this design functions almost like a textured wash of colour, adding depth and visual interest without overwhelming the room. On a single accent wall, such as behind a low bedhead or along a dining space, it anchors the furniture with a cool, grounding backdrop. In spaces with soft natural light or indirect daylight, the subtle transitions between slate, dusty blue, and cool grey become especially pleasing to live with throughout the day.

Styling it

We would keep the surrounding interior scheme relatively calm to let the fine visual texture of the wallpaper hold its own. Cool slate blue naturally complements warm woodwork, so pairing this wall mural with honey-toned oak, warm birch, or walnut furniture creates an inviting temperature balance. For larger upholstery like a sofa or an upholstered headboard, consider natural unbleached wool, pale chalky greys, or deeper ink-toned fabrics that mirror the darker speckles in the pattern. Matte black or brushed bronze lighting and hardware also provide a crisp graphic edge against the softer, fluid background of the wall.

Colour combinations

The design itself is built on cool slate blue, soft denim, and misty grey, accented by fine darker charcoal stippling. When planning painted woodwork, skirting boards, or adjoining walls, we suggest pairing it with soft off-whites that carry a hint of cool grey rather than creamy, yellow undertones. Deep navy and charcoal work beautifully for doors, cabinetry, or window frames if you want to pull out the darker flecks within the repeat. If you prefer introducing accent colours, muted mustard, burnt ochre, or pale terracotta offer an earthy, natural contrast that warms up the blue ground effortlessly.
