Wallpaper - Kasumi Garden, Lacquer Red

Designed by Marta Cortese, our Kasumi Garden wallpaper in Lacquer Red presents an intricately detailed botanical panorama set against a deep, moody crimson backdrop. The composition builds upward from a dense, tiered foreground of blossoming peonies, lilies, and delicate wild chrysanthemums into slender bamboo reeds and soft cloud formations hovering in the night sky. Stylised cloud banks frame the bottom edge in gentle scalloped rhythms, creating depth across the scene. Cream, blush, and soft ivory blooms contrast dramatically with the warm, dark lacquer red background and earthy terracotta foliage. Our made-to-measure mural wallpapers are PVC-free and printed on paper with a subtle surface structure, making them straightforward to hang in your interior.

In the room

The dramatic horizontal progression and rich, enveloping palette make this wallpaper especially striking across a main feature wall in a living room, dining room, or bedroom. Because the floral density gathers across the lower half and opens toward the top with bamboo silhouettes and drifting clouds, it anchors a room without feeling visually crowded at eye level. Placing it behind a low headboard or behind a sofa allows the full botanical landscape to remain visible while framing your main furniture pieces naturally. In a dining room, low evening lighting brings out the warm crimson and terracotta undertones, creating an intimate, atmospheric backdrop for dinner parties.

Styling it

To let the rich floral detailing take centre stage, we would pair this design with clean-lined furniture and restrained accents.

• Choose warm natural woods such as walnut or dark-stained oak to complement the deep lacquer red background and ground the lower composition.
• Introduce upholstery in plain textured fabrics like linen or bouclé in ivory, warm oat, or soft stone, which echoes the luminous petal tones without introducing competing patterns.
• Add minimal decorative accents in antique brass or darkened bronze to pick up the warm metallic warmth implied in the botanical shading.

Colour combinations

The design itself is built on a sophisticated palette of deep lacquer red, muted terracotta, and dusty charcoal, balanced by cream, soft butter, and delicate blush pink in the flower petals. When selecting paint shades for adjacent walls, trim, or skirting, warm off-whites, soft almond, or gentle biscuit tones will create a light, balanced contrast that draws out the floral highlights. For a bolder, more enveloping interior, deep burgundy, warm russet, or dusky charcoal on neighbouring walls or woodwork will echo the deepest tones in the wallpaper and create a cosy, cohesive atmosphere.
