Wallpaper - Ginkgo Folia, Blue Shale

Our Ginkgo Folia wallpaper in Blue Shale brings together a repeating fan-like ginkgo leaf motif with detailed line work across a muted, slate-blue palette. What we particularly like about this design is the balance between the dense, overlapping foliage and the fine, radiating veins drawn onto each leaf, creating a rhythmic scallop effect across the wall without overwhelming the room. The soft blue-grey tones give the pattern a quiet, graphic quality that sits comfortably between botanical elegance and understated geometry. Like all our wallpapers, it is custom made to measure on PVC-free paper with a subtle surface structure and designed to be straightforward to hang.

In the room

We see this pattern working particularly well in spaces where you want continuous visual interest without sharp contrast. In a bedroom, placing this wallpaper behind a headboard gives the room an intentional focal point, while the muted blue-slate background keeps the overall atmosphere calm and cohesive. Because the ginkgo leaves repeat in a soft, undulating rhythm rather than a heavy grid, the design also adapts easily to smaller spaces such as a hallway, study, or dressing room.

In an open-plan living area or dining space, we would consider using it across a wider, uninterrupted wall. The repeat has enough density to hold its own against larger furniture, yet the tone-on-tone blue shading ensures it does not compete with everyday living elements.

Styling it

To complement the graphic, layered foliage, we would keep the surrounding furniture relatively clean in profile. Mid-toned or lighter woods, such as natural ash, birch, or muted oak, create an organic contrast against the cool slate-blue background.

For upholstery and curtains, smooth matte textiles in soft off-white, oat, or deeper navy help anchor the room without introducing competing patterns. If you want to introduce metal elements through lighting fixtures or hardware, brushed brass, muted bronze, or matte black provide a neat, deliberate contrast to the delicate line work in the leaves.

Colour combinations

The design itself is built around cool blue-grey, dusty slate, and subtle charcoal-blue shading in the leaf outlines.

When choosing paint colours for adjoining walls, woodwork, or ceiling surfaces, we suggest working with chalky off-whites or pale greige tones that let the blue shades stand out softly. For a more enveloping, tonal scheme, deep navy or inky slate-grey on neighbouring architraves and cabinetry creates a seamless, grounded connection to the darker linework in the print. Muted clay, soft terracotta, or warm taupe accents also work nicely as a gentle counterpoint to the cooler blue foundation.
